i've heard that there are multiple dialects, Mandarin and Cantonese chief among them... but all are written the same (one written language).
Is that the case? |
No , not at all..... dialect are different accent with the same language....some dialects of chinese are without words (only can be said but not be written) Cantonese is not same as mandarin , different accent , differrent words that's all....(maybe it is not clearly ....) |

yeah , it is really funny. for example , enlish word "hello "can be translated in chinese "nihao" ( if you want to pronounce "nihao" in chinese , it maybe pronounced "NeeHau" , but in Cantonese , it will be pronounced "they ho" . while written in chinese is the same "你好" In here I have to say , the words marked blod are not exactly right but just for to be similar with the pronounce of english. if you want to learn chinese or cantonese , you had better to look for a teacher . ^______________^! |

Ni Hao,Handonger: Personally Cantonese is the last dialect I want to learn! (Thank Godness!) hehehe. I like Dong Bei dialect very much! Very musical ! Once a time I saw an American boy speak Dong Bei dialect on TV, which is too funny ! I didn't know how I closed my mouth later! ahaha, virtually there are many more interesting dialects in China, which have more fun . Hmmmmmm,do you think so ?? :) |

Hi Fangfang Do you know cantonese standards ? that is Dongbei dialects and peking pronounce. As you have seen the dramas on CCTV-1 at the end of per year , the pronounce is only local dialect. something you have never heard/seen that is interesting and supernatural ,but sometimes it is just so-so as for some persons. you will find a lot funny things if you have time to travel in more places. |

Hi,Handonger: It is so interesting that the Dongbei dialect togethered with Peking pronounciation is related to Cantonese standards.(Really?) The Dongbei dialect is used by people who live in the North of China, but Cantonese seems to be another ball game, too far away!!!!!! |
