Did you ever finally get the joke years later? Wed Nov 29, 2006 7:32 am  Did you ever finally get the joke years later?

Did someone ever joke with you, and you were unaware of it. Did you then finally figure out it was a joke years later?

This has happened to me: When I was a kid, I was riding next to my father on the way home from a family trip to Chicago, when I noticed a green-and-white sign on the freeway. It said:

Quote:
Valparaiso
Chesterton

I asked my father what "Valparaiso Chesterton" was, and he told me, "He was one of the early explorers of this part of the country." I didn't ask any questions, and I reached my late 20s thinking that there was a pioneer in the days the Midwest was being settled whose name was Valparaiso Chesterton.

Then one day I was driving home from Chicago on my own, and I saw that same sign. It was an exit sign on the freeway, and it was naming two Indiana towns. One was called Valparaiso, and the other was called Chesterton! I yelled, "Dad, YOU JERK!" and then I laughed.

Not a joke but... Wed Nov 29, 2006 23:57 pm  Not a joke but...

Hi Jamie!

Not a joke but a happening while my early professional timess as a technician makes me ashamed always when I remember to it. I was employed at the steel-construction-company and the only employee in the office. One afternoon being alone in the office while the chief had been in the factory-hall the company received a call on the phone. I took the call speaking my saying: "blabla..steel-construction... my name.....?" Without introducing himself my counterpart started babbling something about pressed carbone. Stupid and busy as I had been I thought about a protection-gas for welding and believed I could make my chief a fortune while informing him immediately. I ran into the work-hall and breathless I told him about the good recommendation. The chief started laughing and made me wonder what had been wrong. Later he explained to me that the caller was speaking about diamants. Embarassed
