Hi, I've recently seen the following message on a website: Please wait while the photos are uploading.

Shouldn't this sentence be in the passive? (Please wait while the photos are being uploaded?)

Hi Torsten

I think upload and download are frequently used in the active voice rather than passive -- no matter who initiates the action. These procedures require little effort but both ends must "do" something, so there isn't any clear 'agent' to pin the passive voice on. For all intents and purposes, files often seem to up and download themselves automatically. :D.

Just my (tired) two cents...

Maybe, in some cases, the use of the passive voice is getting out-of-date? I often encounter the following turn of phrase:

The book will publish...
the play will open...
the film will show/is showing...

There also are phrases like the product sells well, the sentence reads...
