Teaching new vocabulary by activity? #1 (permalink) Fri Dec 15, 2006 13:51 pm   Teaching new vocabulary by activity?

Hello,
I want to teach new vocaulary by activities, not lectures.

Is it possible that students could learn new words through activities?

Is there any such activity available?

Thank you!

.
I don't know quite what you have in mind, chachagod, but a lot of vocabulary can be taught through realia, photographs and picture books.

Then there is also THE SILENT WAY.

try 5 categories on the board and a students has to pick a letter from Scrabble then find a word for each category beginning with that word. Then they have to come up with a minute presentation including the word.

e.g. Sports, Strategy games, Hobbies, Tourism, Everyday task

letter say F

word football then student comes up with a presentation with the word included.

note best to do words first as a brainstorm.
