Could you show the meaning of "He was faced with the prospect of missing his performance because he his costume was................................."
why don't we use "faced " instead of "was faced with"

The phrase "He was faced with the prospect of..." has the sense of having to deal with a problem -- but he may not want to deal with it. Saying "He faced the prospect of...", implies that he considers dealing with and accepts the problem.
