Such can be used in several ways but I think 'such' here means 'this'.

'This was my lack of self-confidence'

And I think we need more than that to fully comprehend what it was referring too.

I agree that a little more context would be helpful. The word such probably refers back to a previous sentence or sentences which describe the lack of self-confidence.
