There are seven important main types of Adverb clauses: 1) Adverb Clauses odf reasons ( they answer the question "why" ) because , since , due to the fact that , on account of the fact that.
2) Adverb clauses of contrast ( They contrast theidea expressed in the the independent clause ) although , though , even though , despite the fact that , inspite of the fact that.
3) Adverb clauses of condidtion ( they answer the question "Under what conditions") if , unless , in case , provided that.
4) Adverb clauses of time ( they answer the question " when") when , while , as ,whenever , after , as soon as , once, bfore , after.
5) Adverb cluases of place ( they asnwer the question " where ")
6) Adverb clauses of comparison than, as much as , as many as.
7) Adverb clauses of results so + adjective + that such + noun + that
Note: - A clause : subject + verb - A phrase : a group of words grmmatically related without a subject and a verb. - A sentence contains a subject and a predicate. - A sentence contains only one clause (an independent clause ) or two cluases one is a main clause (independent) and the other is ( dependent ) - A subject is either a noun or a pronoun. - A predicate tells something about the subject. - A predicate " verb + object + complement " - An adverb clause is a dependent clause. - A noun clause is a dependent clause. |
