Work is any mental or physical activity: it's hard work; I've lots of work to do; when you've finished that piece of work, you can have a rest.

'Work' can also mean 'job', for example: father is at work in his office.

A task is work which has to be done: to set someone a task; to carry out a task.

A job can be a piece of work or regular paid work (employment), among several other definitions.
