Hi

The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary writes in one of the examples:

'She reported (his) having seen the gunman.'

Since the word is in brackets, it's understod that it's optional. Shouldn't it be (her) having seen the gunman?

Here are some of the possibilities:

She reported having seen the gunman = she (the person who reported) has seen the gunman.

She reported his having seen the gunman = he (someone else) has seen the gunman.

She reported her having seen the gunman = she or someone else has seen the gunman (it is not clear without any more context).
