Hi NS! It's nice to see you here again.
And, yes, Torsten, what did you end up deciding on and how do you like it?

Dear NS and Amy,
Many thanks for asking about the latest on the notebook front. I've decided for a Dell machine but I want to wait until they start offering a 17" laptop with an internal UMTS card. I don't know how long it might take for them to come up with such a product, as of now the only models with "embedded modules" come with 15" monitors.... Regards, Torsten PS: I think both terms mean the same (laptop and notebook). _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Hi everybody,
This is just a quick note to let you know that I've ordered a Dell Inspiron 6400 because I do want to be able to communicate even when I travel. Also, I've talked to a T-Mobile saleperson and he has agreed to send me a "Web'n Walk Mini Box" which I can use for one month for free. After that free trial period we are going to talk about a possible contract. Now, if this sounds interesting to you too, please let me know and I can try and give you a special quote provided you live in a "T-Mobile country". So if you want to get a mobile Internet connection through high speed UMTS and Wi-Fi (WLAN), talk to me.

| Hi Torsten, check out www.alienware.com. I think they belong to DELL. You can customize your own notebook there. And if you are after a high-end product, this could be the way to go.They might be a bit pricey, though. I will be buying a new machine in january, it will be cheaper and many discounts will be available, and hopefully Windows Vista will work better by that time. |

Dear mejcej,
Thanks a lot for posting that link -- I'll check into Alienware because it sounds very intreging. So, you are going to buy a new laptop in January 2008? Why just in January and not another month? Hi Torsten,
A notebook is smaller than a laptop.

Hi Torsten,
I suppose a notebook is what some people call a palmtop. Yours is clearly a laptop, not a notebook which would be light enough to be held in one hand.

Hi Torsten,
| Quote: |
While the terms laptop and notebook are often used interchangeably, "laptop" is the older term, introduced in 1981 with the Gavilan SC. "Notebook computer" is a later coinage, which was used to differentiate smaller devices such as those of the NEC UltraLite and Compaq LTE series in 1989, which were, in contrast to previous laptops, the approximate size of an A4 or letter size paper sheet.[1] The terms are imprecise: due to heat and other issues, many laptops are inappropriate for use on one's lap, and most notebooks are not the size of typical letter or A4 paper notebook. Although some older portable computers, such as the Macintosh Portable and certain Zenith TurbosPort models, were sometimes described as "laptops", their size and weight were too great for this category.
As of 2007, most manufacturers use the term "notebook" (or some variant thereof) for what most end-users call a "laptop".

My dear friends,
This is just a quick note to let you know that the deed is done: Dell Ireland has come through and delivered an Inspiron and you know what, I'm just tickled pink! It's a fantastic piece of technology that will do an excellent job keeping me connected to all of you where ever I might travel. So, thanks a lot to all of you for sharing your experiences and giving me pointers as to what model might be best for me. Also, my T-Mobile friends sent me a Web'n Walk Box and it's a nifty little gadget but it doesn't run on Vista. I've called them and we agreed to find a solution on Monday. By the way, Vista is excellent -- it has a lot of cool features. For example, it automatically picks up on any HotSpots/WLAN access points and connects you to them with just a few clicks! _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |
