pace = rate
The pace of this song is groovy!

pace = approximate length of a step (unit of measurement)
The ball is five paces from the hole.

pace = step
The man took four paces to the left and two to the right.

pace = repetitive stepping (almost always used to refer to a reaction to nervousness/anxiety)

The man paced back and forth as he awaited the verdict.

Stop pacing, Tom. You're making me nervous!

stray = act in opposition to (something)
By eating the Philly cheese steak, he strayed from his low-fat diet.

stray = move away from (physically)
The calf lost his mother and, as a result, strayed from the herd.
