"Reality" is a currently popular genre of TV show that puts non-stars in contrived situations. I think the term is a misnomer, as I do not see anything remotely approaching 'reality' in the shows.
Please explain the bold words. |
Genre means type, when we refer to literature, theater, TV, etc.
Contrived situations are artificially created situations. They're situations that don't happen naturally.
A misnomer is an inaccurate name.
If something is not remotely approaching reality, it means it's not close to or at all similar to reality.
This, by the way, has been a complaint of mine for years. The term "reality TV" used to describe shows in which cameras caught action that was real. For example, a cameraman would follow the police around and show things that were really happening. Now the term is used to describe a type of weird game show. |
