Dear Alan
I can't really figure out the meanings of these words they occurred in English Language Newsletter: Potatoes, please explain:

The chip on the shoulder about something?
...because we haven't had a male champion tennis player since goodness knows how long...?
Something's been badly chipped down one side?
"You know I'm on a diet and I don't take chips with anything'?

Thank you very much for your help ^^
