get the college boards official SAT study guide. It has 10 actual previous SAT tests to practice. Then get Answers and Explanations 2nd edition by Peter Tanguay. (green on cover not orange.) It has complete explanations on how to do all the questions. I did it and got a 2100 overall and 750 on math :) good luck.

i would highly recommend the weekly scheduled practice tests at practicethesat.com, which is free to use and questions/explanations are awesome unlike some other sites that charge a bunch of money; there are lots of free resources on the web, you just gotta find the good ones.

Check out this SAT Math Formulas sheet. It's short but comprehensive and concise. It has helped me organize my understanding of the overall structure of the math.

It's now been 2 years since I first posted my response to your question. I thought it was time for an update, so I've compiled a thorough review of the Best SAT Prep Books for 2010/2011 on my blog.

I used the The Official SAT Study Guide, 2nd edition and a few other SAT Prep books from Kaplan and Princeton Review that had Practice SAT tests in them.

I used my practice SAT tests (The Official SAT Study Guide has the official ones so definitely get that), and took them timed with a video DVD called Simugator. You can get that one (Simugator: SAT Edition DVD) I think on amazon or at their website www.simugator.com. I got mine at their website just in case I didn't like it, but it worked well. Definitely helped me with my focus and anxiety during the test.

Nothing beats doing the practice from the Official practice guide.

You can also try out the http://www.thetestgrader where in few clicks convert your book/ paper based test practice responses in scaled score, points lost by subject area, and detailed performance analysis. Works for an individual section of test or full test. hope this helps.

I bombed the first test (b/c i didn't prepare at all) and then i got a 2290 on the next test. These are the books that i used to help me.

Math: 5 SAT math practice tests
Reading: only College Board material
Writing: 5 SAT writing practice tests
Vocab: Essential SAT vocab for reading
Practice Tests: Blue CB book
