Is it correct to say:
If I had had enough money to pay for the petrol, I could have bought that car?

Thanks in advance!

Had to buy vs. could have bought #32 (permalink) Sun Jun 12, 2011 13:03 pm   Had to buy vs. could have bought

Hi,

That would be okay in the correct context.

If I had enough money to pay... would also be grammatically correct.

Use of 'had had' suggests that the incident was further in the past than use of 'had'.
