Answer: Without hesitations, the pace of life has increased and so people must exchange of the information faster than ever before. As a result the ability to read and write becomes the most powerful instrument for everyone.
Since the amount of information in modern world increases exponentially you must have the reliable and rapid sources of the data. In the past centuries, the new information spreads mostly through the verbal relations and many people didn’t need in another springs of it. But now the times change. Today we could not always practice the verbal contacts for many reasons such as a lack of the appropriate person. And the single remaining solution is the reading of newspapers, books and articles either on the paper or on the computer’s screen. If centuries ago some technology was able to stay unchangeable for the decades today many of them dramatically change in several months. Engineers must now about new devices, doctors must now about new drugs and teachers must now about new methods of learning as fast as possible. So the reading is the one possible way to be on the edge of progress.
In the past there was situation when only special clerks could write for their masters. Common people and even the aristocracy have not any writing skills, but in the contemporary world, which is the global market at the same time, anyone must write letters and formal papers. Without good resume you will never find the appropriate job, but if your writing attainments are excellent the employers will find you themselves.
Tomorrow the technique was relatively simple but at the atomic age every worker must read requirements instructions and write schedules. And it’s only one example of the reading and writing skills necessity. During the centuries writing and reading were spread only between small groups of people, now they are the necessary part of everyone’s life, aren’t they?
