TOEFL essay samples: If you could change one important thing about your hometown #1 (permalink) Thu Mar 08, 2007 6:39 am   TOEFL essay samples: If you could change one important thing about your hometown

If you could change one important thing about your hometown, what would you change? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.

My country have many problems which have roots in the history of the Bulgaria. I think that problems in my town are problems to all country. Bulgaria is one poscommunistic republic which economy at the moment is at low level. The result of this is little wages and low standart of life.

If I have chance to change one important thing in my hometown I will raise the wages. The consequences of the low level prices are increasing number of people which immigrate. Other pople which stay in my hometown are unhappy because they earn insufficient for satisfying their needs money. The number of people which lives in my hometown decrease every year. This is not abnormal phenomenon. This is only one principle in the economy – workers from countries with low wages immigrate into countries with high wages.
However, there is only one thing which may prevent this principle – raising wages. This is not easy in the real economic situation, but if I have a magic wand I will improve the wage it’ll decides many problems.

First, the people will stay in hometown and I’m sure that they will be more happy than they are at the moment. I know that one town always has many problems – infrastructure, criminality and drugevil but I think that the welfare of one town depends on the wages which earn people in it.
