meaning of "triumph over experience" Sat Mar 10, 2007 12:38 pm  meaning of "triumph over experience"

The man against whom perhaps they have the greatest question is of course Virender Sehwag. He hasn't scored a century since April 2005. In the last 15 innings he played he has made only 180 and his record over that in fact is an average of just 17.30. Many people say that in picking Sehwag you have allowed hope to triumph over experience.

Please explain the meaning of `triumph over experience' in the above paragraph

triumph over experience? Sat Mar 10, 2007 16:26 pm  triumph over experience?

Experience (the past) demonstrates that Sehwag has a poor record; choosing him anyway is evidence that one hopes for more than experience shows: ergo, hope triumphs over experience.

Thank you.
Shewag has two experieinces.
After his debut till 2005. He played extremely well.

But, after 2005 till now, his experiece is very bad. He even never scored one century.

So, my doubt is that here experience refers to which one?

Here refer to [choosing him anyway is evidence that one hopes for more than experience shows]

The experience referred to is the bad part. The text says nothing about prior to 2005.
