Do you agree and disagree with the following statement? Universities should give the same amount of money to their students’ sport activities as they give to their university libraries. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

I think that this is very strange topic because the comparison between sport activities and university libraries is reducing to absurdity. In my opinion, there are two different things, which are not related. I think that equality in the university budget between libraries and sports activities is unreason.

In the follow part of the essay I will give two reasons about my statement.
Firstly, I think that the purpose of the university is to provide to students’ access to part of the science, which every student chooses. If one student prefer to study law, he is not so interested in the sports activities, for example – body building. But yet, if the student want to be engaged in some sport, it’s no problem for the student to enroll in the private sport club. If university spend equal money for books and sport activities, it’ll divert from his main purpose – education. Besides, I think that university is not “universal” institution. It’s impossible for the university to spread over the different subjects. I accept that the sport activities, music, school theatre are useful for the students’ development, but I think that they are additional resources.

Secondly, I think that these additional resources including sport activities must be separated from the university. In my opinion, private sport clubs are more appropriate for the students for several reasons. First, the students independently decide whether to take part in the sport club or not. Another advantage of the separated sport clubs is that student have chance to choose the appropriate for him club. For example, the football team in my university is only one, but I prefer to take part in another club. Unfortunately, I haven’t choice because participation in the club is required from the university.

In a nutshell, I think that the university must spend greater amount of the budget for the science, including books for the libraries, computers and other important materials. However, other activities like sports, arts and so on are important, but they must be in the second place in the university budget.
