Hi Tortoise,
Long time no speak -- it's great to see you back. Where have you been all this time? How are things in Vietnam? I've recently seen a TV program about this Vietnamese coffee company -- their growth has been amazing. They've showed an interview with the founder of that company and he said he is going to outperform Starbucks soon. Also, they showed this Vietnamese fast food chain, I believe it's the biggest national fast food chain in the country. Do you know what companies I'm referring to as I can't seem to remember the names of them? _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Dear Leuleu,
Thanks a lot for joining us -- I'm very pleased to meet you. Please tell us more about life in Hanoi and your future plans. Why are you preparing for the TOEFL? As for Trung Ngugen Coffee, that's the company all right. The young man in that interview was the founder I think. Also, do you know the that Vietnamese fast food chain I was referring to? It's the largest in the country and it was started by a young entrepreneur. Finally, I have a question regarding your avatar. Why did you choose it? What do you want to say with it?

Dear Torsten, Nice to meet you.
About your questions:
Life in Hanoi? When I am asked about Vietnam or Hanoi where I was born, grew up and have been living so far, I often say the following 3 things: 1) First and the best is about Vietnamese people, particularly Hanoian. We are very friendly, hospitable and warm-hearted. You will see many faces with deep and natural smiles. 2) Second and also the worst is the terrible traffic and polluted environment. It is believed that Vietnamese are the best drivers (especially motor-riders) in the world. They, however, are the worst as well since there are a lot of accidents everyday. 3) Third and the last is the culture. I am addicted to the ancient, elegant and quiet style of Hanoi. We have 36-ancient streets, long avenues covered by verdure... I hope you will soon come to visit us some day. Let me know then as I am willing to be a tourist guide.
My plan? My future plan is to find a good scholarship to study abroad and work in some countries for a couple of years. I need to improve my knowledge and skills much to reinforce a sturdy background for my career. I focus on education, mainly on soft and basic skills training to help the young and children exploit the maximum of their potential/abilities. I am also interested in psychology and spirituality, and consider them ways to a deeper understanding of people.
Fast food chain? I think the fast-food chain you mention is of the brand name "pho24", see the link below: http://www.pho24.com.vn/news.php?ID_News=26 http://www.thanhniennews.com/business/?catid=2&newsid=19995
Avatar? My avatar is just for fun. I have had it for along time and find it interesting and funny. Is it ok if I keep it as my avatar?
By the way, pls feel free to evaluate my English because I am a learner. Thanks.

Thank you for ... remembering me . I was enrolled in school activities, so I couldn't visit this site but check my mails. You know, I am in 12th grade and I am going to take 2 important exams: the high school graduation and the entrance university exam, which will take place in June and July. So, Trung Nguyen Coffee Company is the company you wanted to know. It is a well-known brand in VN. If you visit VN, I promise to buy you a cup of Trung Nguyen coffee every day . I don't know what the name of the fast food chain you're referring to is. Maybe it's Pho - noodles. But I am wondering whether Pho is fast food .

I live in the Southern part of VN I know some things about Hanoi through books, magazines... leuleu's words about Hanoi people is right (I am wondering if Hanoian is used in English to referring to people who are living in Hanoi) . But you make me surprised when telling that Hanoi has terrible traffic and polluted environment. Well, Hanoi is very cold.

I'm sure that in a few years time the growth of your infrastructure will catch up with the growth of your economy.

I take it you are also into self-development? You probably have read English books about success strategies and personal growth? Do you have a favourite one?
Yes, of course Pho24 was the company I saw on TV. And they took an interview with Ly Qui Trung -- a very ambitious young man. Have you ever been to a Pho24 restaurant and if so, what do you think of it?
| leuleu wrote: | Avatar? My avatar is just for fun. I have had it for along time and find it interesting and funny. Is it ok if I keep it as my avatar? |
Of course it is OK to keep your avatar because after all it's your decision. You could also decide to replace your current avatar with a real photo of yours because this would tell us even more about you and it will help build our community. It's a bit like in the 'real world' -- imagine how you would feel if you went to a meeting with somebody that person showed up with a mask on their face.

I can see that you are very keen on improving your English and that's why you will succeed. By the way, how and where did you learn English and how often to you use the language?

Dear Tortoise,
Nice to meet you and talk with you about Vietnam and Hanoi.
I think Hanoian is not a standard usage of English but just a slang expression. About the traffic and environment in Hanoi, I think it's just my opinion. I think and feel they are the most terrible things. Of course, I didn't mean it to be in comparison with other cities or countries. Just my feeling about Hanoi. By the way, what about the South? I had some chances to visit Ho Chi Minh city, Danang, Vung Tau, Binh Duong but all the trips were very short. Do you mind telling something about your land in your view?
Regards,
