TOEFL essay samples: Neighbors are the people who live near us #1 (permalink) Wed Mar 14, 2007 11:03 am   TOEFL essay samples: Neighbors are the people who live near us

Neighbors are the people who live near us. In your opinion, what are the qualities of a good neighbor? Use specific details and examples in your answer.

They are three basic characteristics of a good neighbor. He must be respectful, friendly and confidential. In the following part of this essay I’ll try to support my opinion with some facts and reasons.

Nowadays, many people have problems with drug using, drinking, aggression and so on. There are many forms of social deviations. One of the most important characteristics of social deviations is that people, which deviate basics standards of behavior, harm other people. For example, one drug addict, harms not only himself, but also he harms people around him. In this connection, good neighbor must be respectful. If he trespass basic moral standards, he wills harms his neighbors. For instance, one drug addict often steal from his neighbors. Another problem is aggression. People with this problem, often attack their neighbors without rhyme or reason. Because of that, I think that good neighbor must be man, who respect his neighbors.

Secondly, I think that one good neighbor must be friendly. In our life we meet many problems. Friends are always ready to help and understand you. If you are surrounded of neighbors, which are your friends, your life will be easier. I’ll give one example of friendship between neighbors. Last month I forgot keys for the entrance in my block. It was very cold and I ring to my neighbor. Two minutes later, he came with keys, unlock the door and smile on me despite the midnight hour.

Thirdly, I think that good neighbor must be confidential. I’ll cite one Latin dictum to explain better my opinion. It has been said:” To err is human.” Often, we make mistakes and first, which see it are our neighbors. If they are not confidential, many people will be informed about our mistakes. For instance, some people overdo with alcohol when they are returning from party. It’ll be not good, If their neighbor inform all friends of them about their mistakes.

In the conclusion, I think that if we want to know whether our neighbors are good we must grade it on three criterions. A good neighbor must be respectful, friendly and confident.
