meaning of "turn into" Wed Mar 14, 2007 17:13 pm  meaning of "turn into"

Could anyone elucidate the meaning of "turn into" in this sentence for me:

"The hotel was situated right in the middle of a forest and as you turned into (walked up) the drive and saw the rolling hills all around you, it felt like the middle of nowhere.

(Does "walked up the drive" mean "reached the end of the road (drive)" there?)

Thanks in advance Very Happy

Hi Lost_soul

No, if you 'walk up' a drive (or a driveway), you are walking along it, usually toward your destination -- in this case, toward a hotel.

In the context, 'turn into' simply means that you turn off the road at the point where the beginning of the drive to the hotel is (and then you travel on the drive to the hotel). The 'drive' is a little access road or driveway that leads to the hotel.

Another way of saying it is that the person turned and entered the driveway.
