"criticism is a kind of information that can helps me grow and creat"

do you agree with this sentence or do you have a different believe?

for me i think that if we understand the main idea of criticism we can deal right with it.
for example, we should believe that the person who is giving us his criticisim is evaluating us and he wants us to be better and to improve ourselves
and not the other thing.
by that way we can try to get better and to be happy about it and never feel bad about the whole criticism thing.

what do you guys think?
lets share our opinions.

What you said about making us grow is true only with the right attitude.

Some people are too sensitive (like myself) and cannot deal with it constructively (I try) and mostly people criticize for the sake of being critical/opinionated rather than stating the facts and pointing out the mistakes.

Personally, I think criticism is necessary but do I have to like it? No.

Hi!

I think criticism is like a double edged sword. For me it depends on how one is criticising and sometimes who does. I mean, critics might be apposite or sometimes (like Nina mentioned) just a sort of snobishness. And by all the tolerance it always must be proved whether the current criticism is right, mustn?t it?

My undergraduate education is in painting from a very demanding art school. (My graduate degree is in linguistics.) In art school, every two weeks or so, we had critiques in the class. This meant we had to put our artwork up in front of the class, and our classmates had to tell us what they thought was right and wrong with it. At the beginning of the first year, this upset everybody. The guys got angry often, and once in a while one of the girls would run from the room crying. All of this had a good result, though, because we all learned to listen to criticism without taking it personally or getting angry. Now the friends I went to art school with are very GOOD friends, and we know we can rely on each other to tell us very directly if we're making a mistake in our work or in our lives. I'm happy we're able to criticize so freely. If I think someone's criticism is wrong, I just try to see if there's any truth in it at all, and I ignore whatever isn't valid.

And don't underestimate the benefits of criticism from people who really do intend to hurt your feelings! Saint Augustine wrote, "Just as the flattery of a friend can pervert, so the insult of an enemy can sometimes correct."

Hi Michael,
I agree with you. Let's talk about 'fair criticism'. I'm that sort of person who accepts only 'fair criticism'. That really helps to reestimate the things you have done and prevents from making mistakes in the future. Don't you think so?

Some people who don't take criticism well feel that the only "fair" criticism is criticism that they want to take, or that doesn't make them feel bad. That's a mistake too.

Do you think there are any limits as to what's acceptable criticism and what's not?

What do you think of criticism? Thu Mar 15, 2007 22:11 pm  What do you think of criticism?

Hi Pamela!

Yes, I think cruiticism can help us improving our personal/social or what ever skills. Further I think that criticism not always is fair or at least one often don?t feel it to be fair. I mean I personally have an idea what is fair to me but that doesn?t mean that my emotions can?t lead me the wrong way. So, if I receive a criticism I often try to think it through and must admit that sometimes when I considered a response to be not fair it might content a truth that was worth a thought.

But seriously, I?m a bit amazed about your quite straight personal writing. This is not an offend, just an emotion when I think that there is more in your recent reply than just a point of view. Please don?t mind if I err.

Keen on your answer

Yes, I agree. But I'm not that sort of person. Smile Being subjected to criticism is not a pleasant thing but important. To me 'fair criticism' and 'unbiased criticism' is (well-)grounded criticism. I had coursemates who were fond of criticizing ( I'd say excoriating) the others only to insult them. They were not objective but rather findfaulting. Crying or Very sad

All in all, my attitude to criticism is positive. Smile

It is of course really hard to take bitter medicine but it helps at last. Very Happy Sweetness can cause me sickness sometimes. So it's a mixture between bitterness and sweetness for my life. It's appropriate to tell you that I don't like criticism either but I need it somehow.
