what's main difference between show sth and unveil sth?

'Unveil' suggests a ceremonial showing; it is done with some pomp, and often includes a real veil-- a cloth covering the surprise. Here, of course, 'unveil' is metaphoric; no cloth concealed the new plans before their unveiling, though they were possibly under lock and key.
