New materials #2 (permalink) Sat Jan 24, 2004 21:37 pm   New materials

Dear Ariadna,

As a matter of fact, Alan has written a new story as well as another issue of his famous newsletter and we will publish both soon as we are adding a new feature that allows us to convert text files even faster into the necessary format required by our system.

For the next two weeks I'm busy with another project and Slava is primarily working on www.leipziger.ru which is linked to english-test.net

Still, english-test.net is constantly growing and attracting more and more users every day.

Please bear in mind that our site is entirely free to use which means we have to work other jobs to generate our incomes.

All three of us are gathering new ideas that can be realized over the next weeks. For example, Slava is working on a new statics system that will show which tests our users prefer and how they score on them. This system will make the site even more interactive and transparent. We will be able to organize online competitions to see which country the best English students are from.

Also, we have written an e-book covering a number of interesting topics related to internet business and marketing as well as the english-test.net story.

As you can see, we are always here to answer any of your questions on the forum and we will review any suggestions you might have.
Пока

Dear Torsten, thank you for your explanation. I think, you and Alan have enough gifted students who are able to write their stories entirely free. What do you think?
Thanks.

Which language? #4 (permalink) Sun Jan 25, 2004 13:22 pm   Which language?

Hi Ariadna,

Would you like to write an article on how and when you started learning English? You could also cover the current language situation in the Ukraine. What about your mother tonuge? Is it Russian or Ukrainian? Are you required to speak Ukrainian at work? What about your parents? Which language do they prefer? You see, there are lots of interesting topics all related to learning and language.
You are right, we do have a lot of talented students who would like to write articles in English it's just that we have to encourage and guide them...

Which language? #5 (permalink) Sun Jan 25, 2004 13:46 pm   Which language?

Dear Torsren, I'd like to write stories, but I must confess my English is still very weak. My native language is Russian. I am sure, you know, that there are many Russian people in Ukraine. All my relatives speak only Russian. I work at a small factory and all workers speak Russian. We all love Ukrainian. It is a beautiful language, but our native language is a Russian. In my mind, it is wonderful. I started to learn English in my school. It was terrible. Now I try to continue learning of English. I learn English using Internet and grammatical books.
Thanks

Dear Ariadna,

Many people say that their English is weak, yet it really depends on how you define 'weak'. English a communication tool and the language itself shouldn't be the purpose but just a means to achieve your purpose.
So, the more you practise the more self-confident you will become. If you like you can write an article or essay and we'll review and edit it.

Torsren, these stories were very useful and interesting for me. Howerer, I met many new words. I use dictionary LINGO 6 And I couldn't find word *aptly*. I am very glad. My *answer* improved your work( It was joke).
I think stories of Alan are for advanced level. What do you think?

New Story: #10 (permalink) Tue Jan 27, 2004 18:28 pm   New Story:

'... since it aptly described what my aunt had been doing' as the same as 'since it exactly/precisely described what what my aunt had been doing...'

I use Babylon Pro - one the best tools I have for my work.

Yes, Alan does have the ability to combine story telling with teaching grammar. He wants address a wide range of students.
I think it doesn't depend so much on how good your English is right now but on how much like the language. So, you can take story that is written for advanced students and read a small piece of it everday day. This might be more effective than reading a story that contains only words which you already know. The question is are you up to a challenge :)

Torsten, thank you for your advice. I noticed one strange thing. I remember only words, that I have met in articles, films in situations which were interesting for me.
I may say that this forum is very convenient and easy for communication.
