Are you a public transport user? #1 (permalink) Tue Mar 20, 2007 0:18 am   Are you a public transport user?

Hi,

For the past couple of weeks I have been using public transport facilities and I must admit it's been much better than I had initially thought. For example, instead of driving to the office I'm now using the tram and get there much more relaxed. Also, I get some extra exercise and don't have to worry about making time for jogging. There are quite a number of other benefits of using the tram instead the car which I can share with you later.

So, what about you -- are you a public transport user too?

Speak to you soon,
Torsten

Oh yes, I use the bus everyday.

In Fukuoka most of the students use "ecole card", a bus card for the students which cost 6000 yen and you can ride the bus all you want!

My campus is so far from my apartment and if I don't have this card, it will cost me 1800 yen per day but with this card, I can ride the bus all I want and it will only cost me 6000 yen per month. Neat, huh?

yes, i'm a public transport user, too. when i'm in high shool, i go to school by bus everyday. i see it is very convenience for me. the first it's cheaper than other means of tranportationi we can go around the city while we only must pay 3000(vnd) equal to 0,2$ very cheap, isn't it. the second, it's help us can stronger because we have to walk to the station. i see it is good for everyone.

I live in the Motor City, so there is next to no public transport. Or, the presidents of the car companies would say we have the best, most flexible public transport system in the world -- private cars. Even our "poor" people have cars (if you can say that our poor people are really poor; I think they're just noisy, not poor).

I used to ride the bus when I worked a 9-to-5 job, but now my work is all over the very large metropolis, at irregular times, and I simply can't use the bus to go anywhere I need to.

When I lived in Europe, I liked riding the train, because I could use my travel time productively. You can see that we need trains in my city, because when people are driving to work, a few of them try to read the newspaper or put on their makeup behind the wheel while hurtling down the road at 80 miles an hour.

On the other hand, when you use only public transport and have no car, your life is governed by the mass transit schedules. You can only leave when the bus or train leaves, and you can't go anywhere that mass transit doesn't go. When I lived in Europe I was invited to spend a few days at judo camp, but there was no way for me to get there.

Try as I might, I don't grasp your point, Jamie.

Or are you being deliberately obscure?

I think she's (or he... shoot, it's a unisex name -- no offense, Jamie Laughing ) just commenting on her feelings about, and experiences with, Detroitian (hehe -- what is the adjective form of Detroit?) and European public transport.

Jamie, I find your comments about the automotive mfrs' influence hilarious, or at least mildly funny. I love sarcasm, and yours is practically tangible in that opening paragraph.

Also, ROFL at your not being able to get to judo practice. Think, though, if your American self had made it: you probably would have kicked too much @ss. hehe (kidding, everyone)

I use my car to cover vast distances.

For intra-office maneuvering and movements in or around my domicile, I use my feet.

Hi all

The beauty of public transport in Leipzig, where me and Torsten are, is it is the biggest tram network in Europe, so we are spoilt I guess.
However I am still an avid cyclist, ya can?t beat wind in your hair, cycling with the traffic and being responsive to hectic car drivers, clueless pedestrians, inpatient tram drivers and dangerous fellow cyclists ; )
