could dust = a cloud of dust suspended in the air

Please explain this. (particularly the meaning of `suspended in the air')

I assume you mean dust cloud. That is a cloud which is made up of dust rather than particles of water. 'Suspended in the air' basically means that the dust is in the air rather than lying only on the ground or the surface of something.
