Business is about making decisions, while politics implies avoiding them. Do you agree?

Hi Aereal, do you really think you can separate politics from business? What about corporate politics -- is that business or politics? And why do you think the purpose of politics is to avoid decisions. If you for a politician, you take a decision. You don't vote for any candidate, you take a decision too -- you take the decision to let others decide what your future will be like.

Both concern the battle for scarce resources.

Both involve the search for popularity -- politicians seek the votes of the people, while businesses seek the consumer's dollar.

I think there's one main difference:

Businesses sell (usually, anyway) a tangible product or service, in exchange for that money. Many politicians, on the other hand, waffle around abstract concepts and dupe their constituents into believing promises that were never meant to be kept.

(Though, certainly, businesses are not perfect)

Torsten - I pretty much agree with you. But the first time I've heard this idea it made me think for a while, and as Tom mentioned "many politicians waffle around abstract concepts and dupe their constituents into believing promises that were never meant to be kept".
What do you think about that?

P.S. of course, we should not take the entire sentence literally - there's a great of exaggeration. Businessman sometimes may avoid or postpone their decisions, and neither politicians hesitate all the time :) we're talking about average.

Let me rephrase,

Business is about making money, while politics implies spending them

at least that's the scenario in Malaysia.

Does that mean that all the politicians in Malaysia are businessmen or you just have high taxes? ;)

Yes, almost all of the politicians here are businessmen, they just don't do it openly, most of the time using their own siblings as the front cover. And I don't think taxes in Malaysia can be considered high.People complaint but I think the taxes here(in Japan) is much higher.
