usage of recoup verb

Hi, everyone !

1. Once again the company has had to make a reduction in the number of office staff to try and recoup FOR their losses
2. Will you be recouped FOR your travelling costs

Do we need preposition "for" in those sentences or can we omit it ?

Recoup is normally used without the preposition 'for'. In your sentences it has the meaning of 'recovering lost money'.

I'd much prefer the word 'reimbursed' in your second sentence:

2. Will you be reimbursed for your travelling costs?

I might use 'recoup' this way:

2. He was able to recoup all of his travel expenses.

Hi,

Recoupment is getting back what is owed you. In the UK each year local councils carry out a recoupment exercise whereby they get money from each other to cover the education cost for children who live in one council area and go to a school within another council area.

I think regroup can also mean to reorganize one's thoughts/to re-energize and start working again. At least that was I heard the word used on an audio CD.
