Imagine how our lives would change if the oil fields in the world went dry tomorrow or even more interesting: What would happen to us if an organization seized control of all the oil reserves in the world. How would you be affected and how would you react to such a crisis?

Hi Torsten,

I am sure humankind could survive without any oil at all. We human beings have survived without oil before; all we'd have to do would be to change our daily habits a bit and life would go on.

Hello,

I think people in Germany won't suffer much. I remembered a lecture on energy that people in Germany (or is it in some places only?) have their basic electricity needs supplied by solar. The same system was tried in Japan but failed. I really don't remember why. I think it has something to do with one of the reasons was not being able to convince the Japanese to build their house in such fashion. Oh yes, I remembered my professor mentioning the solar panels being an eyesore. He did mention other things. I just don't remember. Not going to open my notes though.

But if it went dry tomorrow, the saddest person or in the most trouble would be the Arab kings, the Brunei Sultan and the US I guess?

"organisation"? hehe :)

of course, it'll be difficult for the first time, but plenty of alternatives will pop out :) what is needed is a bunch of people who can solve problems!

We in the US (individuals, businesses, our culture/economy) depend quite a lot on crude oil. Or, at least, oil is a big part of our way of life.

Thankfully, the car companies have come out with some non-gasoline automobiles... which is a big step in the process of gaining independence from oil.

If we ran out of oil tomorrow, we'd be in big trouble.

thankfully, we're not going to run out of oil tomorrow.

Hi,

Money - who needs that? We could do what our ancestors did: Hunt and grow vegetables for our own needs.

It hasn't really become a priority now in order to gain independence from oil. We're trying to gain independence from the people who produce the oil.

What do you mean by survive?

I would have no work if I didn't have a car. My whole economic life would come crashing down.

I'm driving a "veggie car" at the moment. So, you might say the car is powered by Micky D's left-overs. 8)

Hi Jamie,

I am sure you could teach people online as well. It is possible to coach ESL learners as well as linguistics students on the Internet, isn't it? Alternatively, you could buy a flat or a house that's closer to where you work.
