using conditional #1 (permalink) Mon Mar 26, 2007 13:24 pm   using conditional

If I tell people today, they say they have not heard of it.

I learnt that first conditional must satisfy these conditions :

If clause/ main clause
Simple Present/will-future
or
simple present/infinitive
or
simple present/Modal + infinitive

But the above sentence (If I tell........of it) don't seem fulfilled these conditions.
What type of conditional statement this sentence?
Could you help me on this?

Hi LE

That is what is called a "zero conditional". This sort of a conditional is used to talk about things that are always true as long as the condition is fulfilled. The word 'if' has a meaning similar to 'whenever' in this case.

The format of a zero conditional can be either "if present/present" or "if present/imperative".
