Memorizing GRE Vocabs - effort vs. reward? Mon Mar 26, 2007 15:57 pm  Memorizing GRE Vocabs - effort vs. reward?

I already studied all the vocabs in Princeton Review's study guide, and am studying the official guide now.

I want to ask, whether it is worthwhile to put in so much time to memorize another 1000+ vocabs. Obviously i want as high score as possible, but since i work full time, i really dont want to spend another few months doing that, and end up only seeing a few of the vocab during the exam.

Can anyone give me some advice? Good study source and/or how much it can really help my score? Thanks.

Memorizing GRE Vocabs - effort vs. reward? Mon Mar 26, 2007 16:29 pm  Memorizing GRE Vocabs - effort vs. reward?

Dear gre_rookie,

Many thanks for joining our forum. It's probably best if you learn new vocabulary words in context rather than trying to cram them into your head separately. Make sure you have a clear understanding of the reasons as to why you are preparing for the GRE. Are you doing it for the score or because you want to study at university? If you want to study at university, what topics are you interested in?
Regards,
Torsten
PS: The word "vocabs" does not exist. You probably mean "vocabulary words" as "vocabulary" is uncountable so you can't learn "vocabs" but words. Hope this makes sense....

I don't think another 1000 words will make a huge difference on your score. How have your verbal practice scores improved since you started prepping? I think a focus on verbal overall, vs. another 1000 words, would have a higher impact on your score.
