Dear Alan,

I will ask this question again because the other letter failed. I would like to know the name of the little things on the tips of shoelaces. They put the name after the person who invented it. Also, I can't find it in dictionaries. Thank you very much.

Aglets? I didn't even know these things had a name!

Thanks for your question, Mary.

Hello Alan Townend and ESL newsletter

Sorry for this late reply. I really enjoy using this site and I'm proud of being a member here.

My favourite issue is spring has sprung.
You see I am expecting topics like the ones you select. I love spring. And it was the first time for me to notice the seasons. A truly special topic for me.

And you know "the small talk" issue has already shown what my type is. I've been slow to learn. It's taken time to clear my confusion. I really appreciate this site, your job and the work of all your colleagues.

I expect more topics and I will learn more slowly.
Many thanks and best regards,

Bibi

thanks a lot Alan! Because of you I can learn more about learning English. And I have suggestion to you. How about creating an audio download section for the TOEIC?

Thanks,

Hi Geraldo,

Many thanks for your feedback. If you want to prepare for the listening part of the TOEIC, you have to listen to authentic English every single day. You can use CNN, BBC, VOA, audio books, DVD's and other resources you have at your disposal. Don't make the mistake of trying to find "TOEIC listening materials", they don't exist because the audio portion of the TOEIC measures your ability to understand spoken English rather than your "TOEIC listening skills". You don't want to sit in a job interview and say something like "Well, I understand TOEIC English but I don't understand authentic English". In real business situations people speak all kinds of English so the more authentic input you get, the better your English will get. As your result, your TOEIC score will increase as well.
