TOEFL essay samples: You have received a gift of money. What would you buy? Sat Mar 31, 2007 21:11 pm  TOEFL essay samples: You have received a gift of money. What would you buy?

Hi Alan. This time I tried not to do so many mistakes as before, please correct my essay. Thanks a lot. Best regards, Vika.

You have received a gift of money. The money is enough to buy either the piece of jewelry you like or tickets to a concert you want to attend. Which would you buy? Use specific reasons an details to support your answer.

First and foremost, it is needless to say that a person would buy something that he or she needs the most. From a purely theoretical perspective, a choice of a purchase depends on a person's proffesion, family, circle of acquaintance etc. In my essay, I will try to substantiate why people would buy tickets to a concert, piece of jewelry or another items.

If a person who has received a gift is a young woman, she would probably buy a piece of jewelry, because in a young age, either girl or woman tries to look perfect, to wear fashionable clothes, expensive jewelry and perfect make-up. But not only women could choose to buy a piece of jewelry for themselves. Also, a man can buy this item for his wife or beloved woman.

A word must be said about tickets to a concert. The main point here is that people usually go to a concert to listen to their favourite performer, to relax, to dance, to spend their free time with friends. Simply put, people visit concerts to have some fun. Thus, the most common visitors of concerts are teenagers. Consequently, if a teenager will have to choose between a piece of jewelry and tickets to a concert or to a dance hall, it is obvious that he will buy tickets instead of jewelry.

If I were given a gift, I would buy excercise books, which could help me to prepare for SAT and TOEFL tests. As it was said earlier, every person would buy something that she or he needs the most. At the present time, my closest goal is to enter a University in the United States, so the best present for me would be a book which can help me to improve my skills and to succeed. On the contrary, if there was no aim to enter the University this year, I would buy a piece of jewelry. For my beautiful mother.
