Hi

Could you please tell me if you find the following sentences correct and natural? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Quote:
1-Luckily for him, a herd of goats was passing by only a short distance away.
2-Luckily for him, a herd of goats was passing near by.

Tom

PS: Which one is better?

Hi Tom

I think both are fine -- except that I'd spell 'near by' as one word.

PS
You've got me curious as to why a passing herd of goats would be lucky for him. :D

Or maybe he hadn't had anything to eat or drink for a long time!
