TOEFL Essay: Attention to the celebrities #1 (permalink) Mon Apr 02, 2007 21:06 pm   TOEFL Essay: Attention to the celebrities

Hello!
Question:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television, newspapers, magazines, and other media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people such as public figures and celebrities. Use specific reasons and details to explain your opinion.
Answer:

I believe that the great attention to the private lives of famous people is not very good for public in general and for me in particular. And I think so because useless news occupy the front pages of the newspapers, people spend their time reading such news and such news often provide bad example of life style for youth.

I hate the situation when all newspapers’ front pages and the best time on the TV occupy by information and reports about new Timberlake’s girlfriend. When I arrive from an institute and turn on the television I see the same things over and over. Most of such news will be forgotten after several minutes and it is stands of reason that all of them are absolutely vain, but people, who have not satellite TV, must see them in any case.

The law of the business is:”The time is the money” and we must spend it effectively. My younger sister liked the reports about celebrities and she spent about two hours per day to find information about them in the Internet. It was an absolutely useless time spending. But then she made a decision to spend this time for foreign language education and since that she haven’t looked on the celebrities’ lives, but have improved hers.

Finally, information about famous people might be both false and antisocial. The reporters like to dig in other’s dirty linen and the accounts about drugs and drinks in the celebrities’ circle are very common. Since the biggest part of audience is youth people such conceptions aren’t very good for their future life, because they think that narcotics are the necessary part of the successful people’s life.

Famous people need in attention because they earn money by this way. But sometimes we spend too much time seeing on the others’ lives. Let’s build our own ones.
