TOEFL Essay: Beneficial discovery in the last 100 years

What discovery in the last 100 years has been most beneficial for people in your country? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

Answer:
There were many great discoveries during the twentieth century but I believe that the invention of the aircraft is one of the most important among them. The aviation gives us not only the opportunity to move unbelievably fast but it’s also a great export product for my country and the new technologies’ amplifier.

One hundred years ago no one could image that it would be possible to travel from Europe to America in ten hours but now it’s the commonness. Only aviation has made possible to perform such incredible trip. It’s also possible to provide meal and clothes to the epicenter of the natural disaster right away using the huge aircrafts like Russian AN-225 which could carry a quarter of million kilos.

My native country is Russia, the one of the biggest builder of the aircrafts in the world. Our air-fighters and helicopters are very popular in many foreign air forces and they are the important export product. The development and producing of such goods are very difficult problem but the additional cost is also great. Since that this high-tech products are very useful both for Russia’s prestige and for Russia’s budget.

At the beginning of the past century the plane was the wood vehicle with tiny engine. But now it’s a very complicated fusion of modern mechanics and electronics with huge cost. The development of aviation has often caused outbreaks in other parts of technics and science from committing of space flies to the creation of new materials. Since I’m an engineer I could guess that most of the mathematical approaches, which have been used during the planes development, are very common in the up-to-date automobile industry.

It’s impossible to imagine the contemporary mankind without aviation. The first fly of the Wright brothers endured only several seconds but they opened the door into the incredible world of new speeds, new distances and new possibilities.
