Hi,

I came across such an expression as 'fly-specked windows' in the following passage:

Quote:
She glanced through the fly-specked windows of the most pretentious building in sight, the one place which welcomed strangers and determined their opinion of the charm and luxury of Gopher Prairie--the Minniemashie House.

Does it suggest:

1. windows where flies stick around looked like there are many specks/spots there. or

2. windows where flies' excrement makes it look like specks.?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi, Haihao !

Take a look at this: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/flyspecked

flyspeck:
1. A small dark speck or stain made by the excrement of a fly.
2. A minute or insignificant spot.

to flyspeck = To mark or foul with flyspecks

Hope it will help
