There is another meaning that's sports-related (used mostly with basketball, though it could be used in soccer, football, perhaps other sports):

-- From one end of the field/court to the other.

This is crazy! I was just listening to "Wet Sand" by the Red Chili Peppers which contains the phrase "from coast to coast". I swear I heard that exact phrase at the very moment I was browsing this thread! Serendipity, mere coincidence or none of both?
