Hi, guys

Recently, I would like to write a testimonial about learning in WSI(Wall Street Institue) which is a School of English. Here is the article I wrote. Please check it out if possible. Many thanks!

Quote:
What I have learned in Wall Street Institute

Hi, everyone

It's my pleasure to share something with everyone that what I have learned in Wall Street Institute (WSI). My name is Maggie Hsieh. I have been joining WSI around four months until now. In my opinion, WSI is the best School of English I have been joining. In WSI, I can speak English with everyone, such as the secretaries, service managers, personal tutors ,consultants, and classmates. In fact, I signed the contract in Taipei Station(TS), but now I have transferred to HsinChu WSI. I appreciated that my consultant is so great to help me to HsinChu WSI where is much nearer I am staying now. I want to tell you that you don’t really worry about transferring to other WSI centers if you need.

I am so satisfied with the services of Wall Street. All of them, my consultant, Selena, my personal tutor, Vanessa, my English teacher, Andy, the secretaries, Kelly, Vicky, Phoenix, are always so polite and help me to do something if I need. I think I have learned more English Here. Definitely, I like to speak English and write something in English. That’s why I would like to share my ways of learning English.

First, follow all rules that WSI asks me. I follow them because I consider I really need to practice my listening before filling in vocabularies to my brain. Then, I try to repeat the sentences WSI teaches me. Lastly, I join Encouter class which is class that WSI arranges and one English teacher tests if I make sense the contents of the English book.

Second, find something I am interested in. I believe that I need motivation before doing something. For examples, I like to write diary, so I write my diary in my blog if possible. For you, maybe you like to see movies, you can rent movies you like or go to the theaters to watch movies.

Third, record what I have learned. I write most things in my blog. I think most people can’t remember all things. That’s why I want to record what I have learned day by day. When somebody surfs my blog, he or she might leave some messages or encourage me to do better. It will let me get something from their ideas. I believe we can get knowledge from books, people or others’ experiences. I like to interact with people, no matter they are on the Internet or real world. This is the way I improve my English abilities.

Forth, try to find the answers to the questions myself. If I have some questions, I would try to find the answers myself. Maybe I discovery it from the Internet(for example, the search engine, google). I think the answer I find is not always precise correctly. I would look it up in the dictionary. Also, I prefer to use English-English Dictionaries, and I would see the examples they give to make sense more. If I am still not sure the answer, I would post my questions to some of the English Forums to ask somebody. I usually would ask the Wall Street English teachers or the personal tutors if I have questions.

Finally, let English to be your part of life. Surely, learning English is not an easy thing. However, I probably open my mind and talk with others I meet or I know, such as our friends, family, colleagues, Internet friends etc. I talk with Wall Street classmates, personal tutors, and consultants. Now some of my MSN friends are WSI members. I chat with them to share working experiences, funny things and so on. Probably, I would learn English everytime and everywhere. When I take the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), I would notice the instructions written in English. I found that the terms are great correctly and I can get more from them.

In short, I think it’s up to you that how to improve your English. I always figure out other ways to let my English been improved. I read the English words which teaches how to learn English from some Newspapers after reading news.(I am not sure if readers know that some Chinese Newspapers also have English fields.)Nowadays, English is very important in business. Moreover, I think English really enriches my life.

Please keep enjoying learning English.

Sincerely,

Maggie Hsieh

Hi Maggie,

I have made some suggestions using capital letters:

Hi, Everyone

It's my pleasure to share something with everyone that (what) I have learned AT Wall Street Institute (WSI). My name is Maggie Hsieh. I have been STUDYING AT WSI around four months UP TILL now. Hi,Alan

First of all,I appricate your response.I have more questions.

1.my opinion, WSI is the best School of English I have EVER JOINED/ENROLLED AT.

I wonder could I say 'I have been joining at or I have been enrolled at'? I am thinking about now I am still at WSI. But,I infer your idea is that I proabaly don't always join it,and I simply joined it one time for my situation. Here, you meant I can add the preposition after join or enroll. Am I right?

2.I appreciate that my consultant is SUCH A great to help me AT HsinChu WSI, WHICH is much nearer TO WHERE I am staying now.

I wonder that could I use 'in HsinChu WSI'? Why or why not? And the sentense,'...WSI,WHICH i much nearer...'. I am thinking about WSI is a kind of place,so could I use 'where',here? I mean 'WSI where is much nearer...'.

3.First, follow all THE rules that WSI asks OF me.

I wonder how come to add the preposition,'of',before me. Definitely,I always get confused that when should I use the preposition,'of'.

4.The last question is that do you have any other suggestions about how to write this kind of article, like testimonial or other articles. What I mean is that, for example,we,Chinese, wirte a article,we usually write four paragraphs. For each of the paragraphs,we put some key points in it. Something like that.

Thanks in advance for every response.BTW,please correct my mistakes if possible.

Greetings!

Hi Maggie,

I understand you have asked some more grammar questions which haven't been answered yet. I'm sure somebody will get to your questions or even better, maybe in a few weeks you will have learned the answers to your questions yourself. In the meantime, I hope it'll be OK for you, if I ask you a few more questions about the Wall Street Institute. Could you please tell me if there is anything you got from them that you could not have received from another place? I mean, you have to listen to English audio resources constantly. Why pay for a WSI course when for the same money you can get several audio books? You say that the secretaries and other staff at WSI or always so polite and help you if you need something done. What exactly are you referring to? Could you give us an example? As for your blog, do you really need the WSI for that?
Please let me know what you think.
Regards,
Torsten

Hi,Torsten

I go to WSI because of some reasons,as following,

I need the environment. When I go to WSI, I can talk to everyone in English. If I listen to English audio, I simply can listen it. Nobody can speak English with me. At WSI,it gives me some levels, and the English teacher would see if I have learned the contents of the manuals. I think I need someone to encourage me and talk with me. In Taiwan, most people speak Chinese without speaking English, except they are sales who need to have conversations with foreign clients. For example, one of my friends' mom,who needs to speak English with forigeners for her job,but she seldom speaks English with her son and daughter. Definitely,it's weird to speak English with Taiwanese. So I go to WSI to get more power of learning English. It pushes me to learn English definitely. Moreover, WSI gives us one computer classroom who students can listen the audios ,repeat it and the students would be tested by computer finally. The personal tutors will be around the computer classroom, and they would try to help students if possible. Could you image that one person who repeats some English sentences himself/herself at home? Honestly, for me,I would felt asleep and I couldn't continue to learn English for a long time. I have truly tried that way before. I got failed, indeed. That's why I go to WSI. Any opinions will be appricated. Thanks very much for your great questions.

See you soon,Torsten.

Please correct my mistakes if possible.

Maggie^^

Hi Maggie,

Thanks a lot for explaining your situation and sharing your learning experiences with me. This is very valuable information and I now have a better idea where you are coming from. I guess most people need somebody to motivate them. When it comes to learning a language it's vital to interact with other speakers so you can make progress faster. However, if you work on your self-discipline you can create your own English language environment that includes audio and printed resources as well as English native speakers and other learners.

All it really takes is the willingness to do so. You pay WSI because you find it hard to motivate yourself and because you have invested money, you have a greater motivation to get something in return. To answer your question, yes I can imagine people repeating sentences to themselves when they are alone in front of their computer because I am one of them. And I don't fall asleep at all simply because I love practicing and improving my language skills. It's a bit like sports. Can you imagine going jogging without a bunch of other people?

The vast majority of all people don't want to motivate themselves. They'd rather pay money to a company to get motivated. Also, there is only a very small percentage of people who can work at home on their own. Most people simply wouldn't be able to motivate themselves if they weren't surrounded by coworkers and a boss who "supervises" them. I used to be one those people and I took me years to get my self-discipline to a level that would allow me to work a few hours a day on my own. If you like, we can talk about this more on Skype. Do you use this system? If so, you can join our next Skypecast session on May 14.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Torsten

Hi,Torsten

I am wondering the avatar is yourself? And may I know how old are you? I found out many foriegners know how to use Internet. As I know, Taiwanese who are more than 40 years old, maybe they can't and don't want to use the Internet, such as my Mom and my Dad. And what kind of job do you do now? And do you have boss or do you work at home? Besides,as you mentioned the session. Could you explain a little about it? I am curious what's it and what I can do in that session? And I know how to use skype. Thanks for every response.

Greetings!

Maggie^^

Hi Maggie,

People of any age are using the Internet just as they are using other media such as the phone or TV. As for my avatar, yes that's me or rather that was me last summer. I was born in 69 and I'm self-employed. If you want to learn more about my job you can read our blog. Regarding the Skypecast, we are going to speak about language learning techniques and learning systems.

Torsten

I simply have used the instanst message, skype before, but I haven't used skypecast yet. I have followed the skypecast to start skypecast. Then what should I do on May 14? And could you tell me when will the session hold? I mean ,definitely, the time is different between Taiwan and other coutries. So the time is according to which country? Thanks so much.

By the way,I am expecting to join the session very much.

Greetings!

Hi Maggie,

Now that you have installed Skype joining our Skypecast will be a piece of cake for you. As soon as the session starts there will be a link reading "Join this Skypecast". No worries, you'll find it as soon as it is on. Regarding the time, the Skypecast will start in the evening central European time. You can use the Worldclock to check the time difference between Germany and Taiwan.

By the way, how are things with you at the WSI? Are you still going there?

Hi,Torsten

Now I surely know how to use skypecast. But I am stilling doubting that how can I know if you have already started the session? Should I need know the topic of the skypecast of the session? Then I can find out and join it. And how often do you hold this kind of activity?

And now I still go to WSI,definitely. I signed the contract for 9 months. Now I still can go there for 5 months. Actually, the fee is very very expansive. I think it's most expensive than other English Schools of Taiwan. And recently,I have found out some people who want to learn English and stay at WSI,also. That's a good idea for me.

Please correct my mistakes if possible.

Take care.

Maggie^^

Hi Maggie,

A few minutes before our Skypecast starts, it will be listed in the "Starting soon" section and you can join it. The session on May 14 will our first one and based on the results we will decide how many Skypecasts we will host each month.

Could you please tell me more about your WSI course? As far as I know you purchase a package which allows you to attend courses and take part in activities any time during the period of your contract. Very much like in a fitness center. Is that right?

Regards,
Torsten
PS: You can say "WSI is more expensive than any other language school in Taiwan." (comparative) or "WSI is the most expensive language school in Tawain". (superlative)

Hi,Torsten

I'm very glad to let everyone know about WSI,definitely. At WSI,there are two systems. One of them is called 'English ON-LINE(EOL)',and another one is called 'Business ON-LINE(BOL)'. The mission of EOL is that let students learn about how native speakers talk English in their life. Moveover, maybe you can guess the mission of BOL from the term,Business. The Mission of BOL is truly for Business. And one of WSI's rules is that students have to finish at least two levels of EOL. And now I am studying in English ON-LINE class. WSI hope students can learn around one level during three months.

Now I introduce the progress what I should do for EOL.

1.Learn English from one conversation myself.

I need to study for 3 units. Each of the units, I have to do the things below.
1.Listening one conversation. Then the program will test you and see if you can get at least 70 scores.
2.Repeat each of the sentences of the conversation. Again, the program will test you and see if you can get at least 70 scores.
3.Read and record each of the sentences of the conversation. Again, test if you can get at least 70 scores.
Here, students have to get at least 70 scores before passing any stage. If not, they need to do the same programs until passing it. Actually, the program is random that everyone might choose different programs wheather they are studying the same unit.
4.One person who is not a real guy will ask you some questions, and the topic,of course,is about the conversation.

2.Join one Encounter Class.

I can book one Encounter Class with the secreatry who works at WSI. I can see the bulletin to know which time I can join. The maximum of students for one Encouter class is four. The English will test if students have learned the 3 units. He/She will prepare some English questions to test students. Finally,he/she will evaluate if students can pass the class. If not,the students have to repeat it. For example about the content of Encouter Class. One English teacher gives the students one picture. The English teacher asks them to answer the questions. Maybe the students would answer 'The dinner has been served by the waiter.' This is about the grammar of Present Perfect Tense. Something like that. And only the same level students can join in the same Encouter class.

3.Social Class(SC) and Complementary Class(CC).

For one level, you can choose at most 8 CC or SC classes. For SC,WSI will host some activities, such as reading Club, celebrating Valentine's Day,X'mas Day and so on. Here, students can know many students if they want.(At most 20 students) For CC,WSI will allow at most 8 students to join.

Hey! Torsten. I am not sure if I have already given you the answers you want. You can tell me if you want more or tell me what kinds of things you are more interested in. Then maybe I can focus on what you want to explain more.

Greeting!

Please correct my mistakes if possible.

Maggie^^
