The USA did not win the conflict in Vietnam chiefly because enough Americans lost the stomach for the fighting. The government dawdled, screwed up, we were overconfident, etc.

South Vietnam did not want to be overtaken by the communists of the North.

maybe i don't have the right to comment on the politics of other countries..............thought the information does not accord with what yours (seems vietnam ppl and korean ppl at that time hoped they were led by communists).Ok but one thing i am sure that is the United States surpported Chiang Kai-Shek (chinese national party ) b4 prc was founded and the excuse seems the same :"something like chinese communists are killing chinese , disturbing the peace and social stability and chinese at large were caught between two fires so the chines communist must be wiped out " but did the american ppl at that time knew that in fact chinese communists were widely spported by the common ppl except those selfish rich ppl.... At that time we didn't hope to be ruled by Chiang Kai-Shek
so i don't believe the foreign governments supported by the united states really embody the willing of local ppl.....the united states only support the government obidient to him..
at least from what china has expereienced b4 i am sure the above conclusion is believable ...........
how do you know the idea of vietnam ppl? from your media?

Okay maybe the debate should be stop here..... seems that we chinese won't have the same political opinion as your foreigners.....................

Could You please imagine, how many battles have been won in the name of communist in China just because Russian weapon arrive in time.
Without Russian communist China never could be taken by Mao.
Money supplies weapon everything for "free" and in abundance.
We are not kids communist or who ever without armies are dreamers.
China "communist" are "OK" but I still honor the Chinese man in front of tanks
keeping his shopping bag and being one of the Chinese communist.
I remember Tienanmen.
Life of these kids would be one day the most important subject in China

but believe me the money and weapons Chiang Kai-Shek got from the Usa were much more than Mao got from Russia...
Mao won the battle because of the support of chinese ppl at that time....believe me i know china much better than you.... ilive here and feel here .. i got information not only from media but from reality (families and friends)
i won't say chinese communists are perfect forever and i don't believe there is any political party is perfect

I will say this for China:

While some Communism is still in place there, China's economy has grown well with the more recent move toward free enterprise practices.

If yiu are referring to the cival war of china, i can tell you huge amounts of communists were cruelly killed by Natioal party.
If you are referrng to Cultural Revolution , i have to admit it is a mistake made by Mao. but here i need to point out the purpose of the cultral revolution is good . Mao hope to prohibit Capitalism (winning the war between capitalism and communism in china ) in fact it was just a political war........but some ppl took advantage the revolution (such as Jiang Ying , Lin Biao) to get their own aims........many innocent ppl died in this revoltion............Mao should be responsble for part of it but not all.In fact when Mao was in his eighties he was too old to control everything......everything was out of control. i don't think Mao knew when some ppl were killed....
Mao is one of the greatest men in chinese history but he is not a god he is not perfect just as many great men in the history(for example his private life).....But he libertied chinese from oppression he changed the direction of china's development........
PS despite that i don't like it , i have to admit political wars are always very cruel..... death is unavoidable, sometimes you kill others or you are killed by others(a group of wild animals....)........

OOPS! hope you guys can understand my poor english......i believe i can express my opinion better in chinese......

china is half capitalism in economy...............i hate it some of the time.............equals to say:" we give up...."

In Communism people have jobs, but few rights to really advance. People are kind of stuck.

In Capitalism people are (more or less, as governments add regulations) free to rise or fall on their own. Some win, some lose, but the greatest thing about it is that everyone has the ability to try to be great, to do great things.

China has been embracing some aspects of capitalism/free enterprise for some time (what, the last 20 years or so?) and it has helped them to develop at an increasing rate. Good job dudes!

Yes , but not entirely - Szczecin or Stettin was part of Prussia but East Prussia
or West Prussia are deeper in Poland and they are more Prussia by heart (not now anymore but in the past).
