Have you ever been to the US? Sun Apr 22, 2007 8:57 am  Have you ever been to the US?

Have you ever been to the USA or you planning to go there? I've always been fascinated by the idea of going there once because in my opinion it will be a person's single most important learning experience. I mean, if you were born in the US you have a different perspective on your current situation. If you born outside the US and then travel there, you probably see things through completely different eyes. The average US citizen probably takes things for granted that others might never have experienced before.

What do you think is different between your country and the US? For example, here in Germany you very rarely would see a colored person, especially in the part where I'm from. If you do see somebody who looks different, you are likely to think negatively about them. In many parts of Germany there is still is a lot of intolerance and narrow mindedness. Yes, I do expect the average American more open minded when it comes to cultural differences than the average German.

As Jamie mentioned yesterday, a person might speak perfect German but if they were not born here, they wouldn't be regarded as German. Also, people here tend to concentrate more on minimizing risks than on capitalizing on opportunity. Do I sound like complaining about my own country? Far from it. I'm happy to be German and a EU citizen but I do want to learn what it is like living and working in the US. That's why I'm planning to go over next there next year. What about you? Have you ever been to the US? Let's share our thoughts on this here.

Thanks,
Torsten

Nonsense!!! Twisted Evil

If the people (Torsten and moderators; especially mods from the US) are able to understand your written english in this forum, you should not have a problem applying for a visa from the US embassy in your country.

As long as they can understand your written and spoken english, i don't see any reason for them to reject your application for a visa to visit their country or study in their country...! Unless they are racist! Rolling Eyes

If you say people from china don't deserve a visa to visit the english speaking nations because of their poor english, then they are wrong... We DO have a lot of people from china speaking perfect english... Very Happy

---> NO offence here <--- Just stating my own views which should not be misunderstood as something else... Wink

Singapore has its own visa policy and not everybody is welcome in your country
on multinational ship always are people who can't disembark or have to pass through application process.
USA does exactly the same don't you think?

As long as you are not a terrorist or someone who will pose as a danger to the country you are visiting... you should be able to get the required visa provided. Smile

I should have entered USA 6 weeks ago, but there is some kind of new security check for international students and I am waiting for a visa for two month already, with the studies started... Sad
