Anyone in the same "strange" language situation? #1 (permalink) Sun Apr 22, 2007 9:50 am   Anyone in the same "strange" language situation?

Hi,

Are you in a similar language situation like me? A large part of my communication is written or to be more precise, typed. I'm so glad I learned to type in the late 80ies when most of us would never had thought we soon might be using computers on a daily basis. I see so many people struggle with their keyboards and often they decide to make a phone call instead of composing a written message. Well, although or because I type quite a lot I'm in a rather strange language situation: The vast majority of my written correspondence is in English so I decided to purchase a laptop with an English keyboard. Now, since English is a second language to me, I often find myself in a situation where I need assistance with my texts.

Fortunately enough, I met Alan Townend a few years back and ever since he has amended countless texts I have written in English. He also has given me a lot of self-confidence because by reading and editing my messages and articles he has shown me that I am capable of expressing my thoughts in English although English is not my native language. The funny part is that I can create an English email at least as fast as a German one.

Is anyone of you in a similar situation? I mean are you using English more than your native language? If so what do you think are the advantages and drawbacks of it?

Thanks,
Torsten

So, are you saying you value Alan or free service?
