Are you for or against raising pets?

Pets are certain animals which are raised and trained to serve mankind in one way or another. Most people love the pets very much, decorate them, and even consider them a friend or relative. However, some people claim that ‘Pets are something I can never stand in my life’. I totally disagree with their saying, for the advantages that pets have brought to people’s lives.

Why people have pets in their houses? Besides the love for animals, one important reason is that pets can serve to help their owners. Not every animal can become a pet, because a pet has its own properties which have been discovered and exploited by humankind for certain purposes since the prehistory. I believe that pets are not senseless. They can feel the way they are treated, and react to people in an equivalent way. If pets are well behaved, they will sure become a good servant. Different from wild animals, pets are tamed first so that most of them are obedient and faithful to human. I want to give examples of dogs and cats, because they are known as two most popular pets ever. People have dogs keep their house, and have the mice caught by their cats. Although those things sound normal, imagine that one day your house is ransacked or you have had enough of the disturbance of the mice, you will regret not raising pets.

Pets are also a source of entertainment to human. Some claim that they are addicted to their pets and feel sad without them. In my opinion, pets look like small children because they are playful and sometimes mischievous. Some pets are very intelligent and watching them playing their tricks is a great pleasure. For example, you can train parrots to speak short and simple sentences, and when they talk, their voice sounds as funny as that of a comedian. If you have a parrot, whenever you go out or return to your house, it is ‘someone’ who says goodbye and welcome you back, whenever you feel sad, listening to its voice can cheer you up. To childless couple, raising pets is of great consolation. They treat their pets as their children, feed them everyday, go out with them, even sleep with them, and worry when they are sick. Childless couple consider their pets the third persons in their family, so the home atmosphere is surely more and more blissful and entertaining.

Raising pets is not only a way to protect animals but also enhances people’s love for wild life and nature. Staying with pets for a short time makes people find out that pets need help and shelter from human, and so do the animals in general. The love for pets will evolve into the love for animals as well as the natural habitats. That forms the sense of protecting and conserving the environment, along with being ready to struggle against any actions that harm the environment.

It is not obligatory that everybody has a pet in his house but to confirm that pets are what you couldn’t stand in your life is wrong. Raising pets means that a person is exploiting their characteristics to serve himself, or the natural property in another word, yet it also inspires his love for the nature in return. Pets are very lovely and useful, so let’s consider them our friend, we may discover many interesting natural secrets.
