Hi,

What is the difference between the infinitive and the gerund in the following construction:

She has the potential to be our next champion.
She has the potential of being our next champion.

Thanks,

.
In meaning, nothing that I can see, Torsten. The infinitive is the more appropriate, I feel, because 'potential' is precisely the mood that the infinitive carries with it. Cf: She has the habit of always being late for classes.
