What is the difference between (conscious and sub-conscious)?

In other words, I can't understand meaning of sub-conscious on many occasions.

Could you help me?

.
A conscious act is one that the actor is aware of; it is performed with aforethought.
A subconscious act is one that the actor is unaware of; it is performed perfunctorily or instinctively.
