Expression: The familiar expression held no more familiarity #1 (permalink) Sun Apr 29, 2007 13:17 pm   Expression: The familiar expression held no more familiarity

Hi,

Quote:
"Don't mention it," he enjoined me eagerly. "Don't give it another thought, old sport." The familiar expression held no more familiarity than the hand which reassuringly brushed my shoulder. "And don't forget we're going up in the hydroplane tomorrow morning at nine o'clock."

Does the underlined imply 'not so intimate' with its wording?

Thank you!

Hi Haihao,
I think the underlined definitely implies "unfamiliarity". The narrator conveys either his uneasiness or the insincerity of an obvious stranger who treated him like a long lost friend.
