Hi again!

I was wondering if anyone can help me. You see, I am really worried about the writing section on the GRE. As I read those fancy example essays generously posted on the Internet, I realize how pathetic my writing style Confused and how miserable and poor my active vocabulary are...

I don't really know how those guys manage to put their thoughts so nicely and to use all the examples so craftily!

Not that they lowered my self-esteem, don't get me wrong. I just feel frustrated. So if you guys have any suggestions on how to improve the writing style, it would be awesome if you could share that onfo.

Readin, reading and reading is the key I guess. But what on earth do they read, those people with preternatural abilities to write????

Can't wait to hear from you!!!!

hi Piggie nice to meet you in this forum.

I fully agree with you.
I'm a Korean, Korea do not use to communicate in English.
So especially, English writing for me is very arduous progression.

I think that this problem can solve by "practice" and "fine brainstorming"

hi there! Nice to meet you too, sorry can't address you by name.

Thank you very much for the valuable advice!
Yeah, practice makes perfect. But I am lacking the wonderful native expressions, word-clusters and such. You know, I, as a non-native speaker, have hard time formulating my thoughts in English. And what I write in the essay still does not sound good. American students would never write it the way I do. So I want to work on that before I follow your advise - practice.

And, if you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by "fine brainstorming"? Do I have to take a separate topic and start muling it over and over? I thought I won't have much time to do so on the test Sad Do you have any strategy for effective brainstorming? Please, share if you can Smile For me there's no fine line between brainstaorming and procrastinating Embarassed

Thx in advance!

I think that practice makes perfect surely. and If you have not much of preparing GRE-writing, I think that ouy had better emulation.

I think that "emulation is the mother of creation".

You had better summirize "basical GRE-writing essay form" Do you have many details information? In Korea, many sample essays exist many private academy. (institute for only GRE-test) Many Korean of preparing GRE-test use this method. they can improve throught "best essay sample"

Hello Piggie. I think you needn't be worried about the examples lacking. This is not very important to your essay. For the matter you needn't to use the complex grammer and sentence structures. All the works you need to do through this eassay is to make others clears what you want to express to them. Because the principle responsibility in the writing is to exhibit your minds, if people feel comfused when they saw your sentences they would not to appreciate your grammer skills or long vacobularities any more.

So I think the first thing you need to do is to condiser the topics of the pool and to make your outlines for them. If you meet a field which you are not familiar to them, just like the " inquiry research" or " pragmatisim", you may seearch the information on internet. I recommend the wiki web though the explainations are made by non-professional members, it also would be commonsense for understanding the breif meaning in an new concept.

Good luck to you.
