some questions about 'Big Brother' #1 (permalink) Thu May 03, 2007 23:36 pm   some questions about 'Big Brother'

Hi,guys

Please help me to read the paragraph below.

Quote:
'Big Brother' is another show that has been shown in many countries around the world. A group of people live together for a certain period of time, under constant surveillance. They are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world and one by one they get voted off by the viewing public.

My questions are listed below.

1.A group of people live together for a certain period of time, under constant surveillance.

Here,I have read some articles about Big Brother. I think this sentence means a group of people are under constant surveillance. It's one of the contents of this show. Am I right?

2.They are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world and one by one they get voted off by the viewing public.

Here,I don't make sense why they(a group of people) are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world?
Moreover, what does get voted off here mean? I think it means they are successful or not are dicided by the audiences. If the audiences give them more votes, then it shows they are more successful. Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings!

Maggie :P

I haven't seen this show myself. I think these people get isolated and are forced to interact with each others. People with conflicting personalities are probably chosen to maximize the dramatic effects. Based on what's written, the audience votes a person off which means the person with the most votes gets kicked out first.

Hi Maggie,

I agree with Diverhank. People (viewers...) decide who must leave the show.I guess the poll can be done through the Internet, sms... I don't watch this show either as it seems demoralizing to me.
