Hi,

Many language schools offer courses in 'Business English'. How is 'Business English' different from 'General English' in your opinion?

Its just another branch of General English.
Specific phrases, clauses, words (like buzz-words).

Its like the difference between a General practitioner and a Dentist. Do I make myself clear?

Hi lost_soul,

Thank you for your post. I still don't think I've quite appreciated the difference. I mean, if you know a language in general, then you would be able to conduct business in that language, wouldn't you?

As far as I know, language schools that offer Business English packages tend to teach their students things like how to negotiate, give presentations and how to sound professional and confident on the phone. You will learn all these things if you study the language as such, I should think.
